john + lauren | WEDDING
Coming soon...
lyndzey
Fort Worth, Texas
So we headed to this motel I had in mind for a musician’s shoot but thought it would work here too. I loved this motel because of the huge windows and the north light was just pouring into the room...T-A-S-T-Y! We headed to downtown Fort Worth next and kept shooting in the great light the wet weather brought with it earlier.
A storied photographer named Frank Ockenfels, who has shot the likes of Garbage, Beck, The Strokes, LeeAnn Rimes, No Doubt and my favorite...McCaully Culkin-the guy has shot everything in pop culture. Anyways, I saw him do this with a Polaroid so I brought mine along to give my version of it a whirl. I forgot how fun those things were as a kid!
Lyndzey brought along her friend Jessica to hold light reflectors for her-HAHA only kidding...we got her in some of the shots too! She did do a good job with the light reflectors though. Best friends are also great for laughs! How do you get Lyndzey to lose it? Quote plenty of Seinfeld....”JERRY!”
Each one of my shots was metered for proper exposure and then seasoned to taste in post production.
Say hello to Lyndzey...my first official Senior for the 2006-2007 school year. “I want something a little different than all the other girls” she says, so I say, “I think I can do that.”

upcoming changes
I’ve been sick lately, and that is no fun at all. The show has gone on though. I shot a bridal yesterday that I will have posted in a couple weeks (the groom isn’t supposed to see the dress until their wedding day...so we all must wait). Also shot another musician that I will get posted up here real soon.
I’ve been doing some thinking lately about my business...thinking about what it’s going to take to get this thing working like a well oiled machine...thinking about the fears that I unconsciously face as the date approaches when I’ve committed to quit my other job and tend to fred egan | photographer full time. It is definitely my dream but taking the dive is often the hardest part. I think that my human nature resists the ideas of drastic change...it’s too ingrained in the security of a bi-monthly paycheck, the day-to-day promise of a job. Also, being a man, I’m just plain afraid to fail. My head & heart tell my this change will be good, my peers show me the change is good, my friends assure me it will be good...now just to convince the doubting Thomas in the back of my head. The single most important thing that has helped me envisioning success is surrounding myself with others that have achieve some degree of that success and saying to myself,”me too...me too.”
I’ve been thinking about “branding” and how I want to sell myself...so naturally there could be some changes in the future. Does anyone here think the grey color scheme is making it stuffy in here?! A little drab? I initially chose grey because I wanted a neutral background with which to view my images...thus emphasizing the images. I have since realized that there is much more to this business than just images...much more. I am trying to learn what I can from those that are where I want to be...although it be at a distance at times. There are so many choices to be made in this industry: which brand to shoot with, what lab to use, RAW or JPEG, PC or MAC and the list goes on. Many of these are simple to answer but often, arriving at the answer comes after trying “sexier” alternatives.
So in that light, here are some changes that will be taking place internally at fred egan | photographer:
- I’m switching my lab to Fotoworks out of California...for the simple reason that those who I admire speak very highly of them and I am already impressed with the personal interest they have taken in me.
- Secondly, my brand is currently being overhauled to effectively sell the attitudes/ideas that I want associated with my logo (which will also be unveiled soon). So, if this place doesn’t look the same the next time you visit-then surprise!
rings
These are just a few random ring/bouquet shots I’ve created lately. A couple of the ring shots tip their hat to Susan Stripling. I have finally been able to produce some black & whites that I am happy with...I mean finally!
**some of you that have never been to a wedding may be wondering what that yellow thing the rings are sitting on is. It’s a bubble wand...at some weddings you'll spot them in the hands of guests as the bride and groom make their grand exit.
