salton sea
Colorado Desert in Southern California
Last Wednesday a group of us crazy wedding/portrait photographers piled in a couple of SUVs and irrationally headed out to the Salton Sea in the Colorado Desert in California.
Roll call:
Kyle Barnes
Sara France
Shyla
Nick Onken
Michael Norwood
Me
After some ridiculously HOT tempertures (105 degrees to be exact) while we were shooting, thousands of flies and the constant smell of dead carcasses, we got ancy and started jumping off of things like Ninjas...and photographing it. There is something about jumping and doing crazy things in the air while photographing it that never gets old.

Group shots!

FYI: Out of the Country
With communication taking shape in so many forms in this day and age, I usually don't need to mention that I am out of the studio since most civilized destinations have some sort of WiFi available (and let's face it, the iPhone is the one-all-be-all communication device); however, I am in Cancun right now until September 2nd and don't have my iPhone turned on. Why? Oh, I have service but I don't want a $953.58 AT&T bill at the end of the month ;) There aren't many phone calls worth that much cash so I have WiFi at the resort-email me at 411@fredegan.com!

Malibu, California
For a good time call Jeff and Caroline.
I had a ton of fun on Malibu's gorgeous beaches with them running around, laughing and jumping. Possessing an understated appreciation for fashion, we rocked Zuma with fauxhauks (Jeff's and mine), aviators and Tiggy (their toy poodle) in tow. Jeff and Caroline are in tune to what makes them them. They've been together for 10 years...through college, dental school, late nights studying...you name it. Caroline's a woman who knows what she wants and isn't afraid to take risks to get it...which is really what it takes to hire someone crazy like me ;) We also share an affinity for killer sushi and even went out for some afterwards-that's like the perfect shoot!

the facts of life
Apparently, there's this crazy little game going around most of my friends' blogs...I have no idea what the name of the game is called but I've been "tagged" by Amy DeYoung, Kristy Behrs, David Baxter, Rebecca Haas, Josiah Kennedy and Heather Cole. I now have to reveal 8 facts...8 facts that maybe most people wouldn't know about me. give you guys an inch and you want a mile! Only kidding my good people, only kidding :) It actually helps make this community much smaller with everyone linking each other and revealing their inner most oddities. I'm all for that.
Fred Egan Fact #1: Egan is not my last name. Castleberry is. I was born Frederick Egan Castleberry. I went by Egan my whole life ('cause the cruel kids would snicker at the name Fred) up until two years ago...and I would also get hand cramps if I had to write out my full name. Now it's just Fred Egan...nice, short and not 24 characters.
Fred Egan Fact #2: I like John Mayer's tunes. And I'm OK with that.
Fred Egan Fact #3: I have this alternate persona that exhibits this horrible taste in movies about high school drama...ie John Tucker Must Die, High School Musical, Can't Hardly Wait, Ten Things I Hate About You...the list just gets worse.
Fred Egan Fact #4: I <3 sushi. For the longest time I resisted it because it was trendy...but it's freakin' good. Could I eat it for every meal? Probably.
Fred Egan Fact #5: I cry about twice a month.
Fred Egan Fact #6: I'm boring. I hate the 4 letter word C-L-U-B.
Fred Egan Fact #7: One of my small pleasures in life is playing the air drums in my FJ with the music really loud.
Fred Egan Fact #8: OCD with email. I check my email on my iPhone as soon as I get it...I just can't leave it alone when the "You've got mail" sounds goes off. My friends hate me for this.
